History

Hockersmith & Whitmore, LLC has a history dating back to the early 1970’s, when the firm’s founder, Richard P. Tisdel, assumed the existing practice of long-time Ouray attorney and judge, Philip Icke.  Rich nurtured the firm and developed it into one of the most respected and well established law firms in the region serving along the way as attorney for the City of Ouray, Town of Ridgway and Ouray County.  Michael Hockersmith joined the firm in 1984 and Andrew Mueller joined in 1995.  Martha Whitmore joined in 2018. Krista Ficco, our lead Paralegal has been with the firm since 1980 and as most of our clients know, is an integral part in the delivery of our legal services.

Throughout its history, Hockersmith & Whitmore has consistently demonstrated a commitment to excellence in the services provided to our clients, garnering a reputation for effective advocacy, honesty and integrity.

We take pride in providing the quality of service one would expect from a large firm in a large metropolitan area, while giving our clients the personal attention one would expect from a small firm such as ours.

Going on into the future, the attorneys and staff of Hockersmith & Whitmore continue to manifest the qualities established by our founder, Rich Tisdel, an unwavering dedication to provide the very best in legal services to our clients at a fair cost.
